Story: "We saw them a foggin' thru the sage! Their flighting gallop
aroused when startled by a cannonade of thunder and brilliant streaks of
summer lightening in the violent fury of a desert storm near Rainier
Mesa. This is a memoir work of my excursions with the
Mustangs of Nevada in the early '60s. A friend and I spent many a
day scouting out herd bands that roamed remote hills and canyons near
Yucca Flats and Tonopah to observe their habitat. The sound of
hoof beats and whinnies lured us to scale endless rimrocks for close
views of stud and harems. Many encounters with such spirited
monarchs in their tenacious endurance of the elements gave us lasting
memories for some of the most inspiring creatures ever to print foot on
American soil." - Lucas |
